Samsung Galaxy S5 to feature eye-scanning sensor: Report

Samsung is reportedly working
on a new eye-scanning feature which is expected to be introduced on the
Galaxy S4's successor.
According
to a report by AndroidSas that cites some sources from Korea, claims that the South Korean
giant has started working on an eye-scanning sensor which will be
featured in the rumoured Galaxy S5. The feature is said to bring the
eye-scanning unlock ability to the smartphones. Unfortunately, the
report does not reveal many details of the alleged eye-scanning unlock
feature.
The eye-scanning feature has not been introduced on any
smartphone (from a major manufacturer) as an unlocking method, and if
the rumour is true, Samsung would become the first handset maker to
debut the feature on a smartphone. However, there is no official word
from Samsung on the alleged eye-scanning feature.
Previously,
Apple and HTC have introduced the fingerprint scanner features to the
iPhone 5s and One Max respectively. The
fingerprint scanner feature lets users to log-in (and authorize
payments, etc., on the iPhone 5s) with a swipe of the fingertip.
Earlier
a report, predicted that Samsung will refresh its flagship smartphone offering sooner
than expected. The report suggested that Samsung has been preparing to
launch the Galaxy S5 smartphone in January due to disappointing Galaxy
S4 sales. It cited internal sources and informed that the Galaxy S5 is
likely to be announced as early as mid-January, with a market release
expected to take place in February.
The report also shed some
light on the specifications of the alleged Galaxy S5 smartphone. It
claimed that the phone would be powered by a 64-bit Exynos 5430 chip and will sport a
16-megapixel camera with enhanced low-light performance and Optical
Image Stabilisation.
The South Korean major has already revealed that its next smartphone would be powered
Microsoft has announced a “fundamental revamp” of its Surface
tablets, with second generation models offering improved battery life
and processing speed. The original Surface and Surface RT
were launched in June last year.

The new
tablets have been designated the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2. The
new Surface tablets both have full 1080p, 10.1-inch HD screens and upgraded
processors. The Surface 2 uses Nvidia’s Tegra 4 1.7GHz processor whilst
the Pro 2 has Intel’s fourth-generation Haswell i5. Battery life on the
Pro 2 is said to be 75 per cent better than the previous generation with
20 per cent better graphical performance.
Customers also
have more memory and storage options to choose from. The Pro 2 will be
available in 64GB and 128GB versions with 4GB of RAM, or with 256GB and
512GB of internal memory and 8GB of RAM. The cheaper Surface either
comes with 32GB or 64GB of storage and 2GB of RAM.
As
well as updating the internal hardware, the new Surface tablets also
come bundled with Windows software. Surface 2 gives users the full

Intel is working on a new line of ultra-small and ultra-low-power
microchips for wearable devices like smartwatches and bracelets, a bid
by the company to make sure it will be at the crest of the next big
technology wave after arriving late to the smartphone and tablet
revolution.
The new line of chips, called Intel Quark, will ship next year
and include an ingestible version aimed at biomedical uses, Intel's
president, Renee James, told reporters late on Sept 10.
The Quark chips will be five times smaller and 10 times more
power efficient than Intel's Atom chips for tablets and smartphones, she
said. "We're very committed to not missing the next big thing," James said.
The world's biggest chipmaker, Intel dominates the PC industry,
but it was slow to adapt its chips to be suitable for smartphones and
tablets.
Intel's focus on wearable computing - a trend that for many
Americans evokes images of Dick Tracy, the comic strip detective who
sported a two-way wrist radio - comes as Silicon Valley eyes
sophisticated computerised watches with touch-screens and other
high-tech features.
The 5C marks a departure from Apple’s focus on purely premium
phones, but not as much as some expected. It has proved pricier than
expected and is, in fact, a trimmed-down version of the iPhone 5
launched a year back. To add to the heartburn among Indian customers,
there is no mention as to when it will be made available here.

First, a look at the two announcements. To be fair to Apple,
the company has always designed some of the best smartphones in the
world. Its iPhone 5s sets a new standard for smartphones with its new
64-bit A7 processor, which promises to provide blazing-fast performance
when launching apps, editing photos, or playing graphic-intensive games.
It also features an all-new 8-megapixel iSight camera and introduces
the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which allows you to securely unlock
your phone with the touch of your finger.

Some of the striking landscapes of Ecuador's Galapagos islands can now be explored online on Google Street View. The launch marks the 178th anniversary of the British
scientist Charles Darwin's visit, which inspired his theory of natural
selection.The high-definition 360 degrees pictures are a joint project
between Google, the Galapagos National Park and the Darwin Foundation.
Many of the animals seen by Darwin in his 1835 voyage were captured on camera by Google staff.
Viewers can also have a taste of less famous Galapagos wildlife, including marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies and Frigatebirds. As in other Street View projects, you can zoom in and out and move around the images.
"The natural history of this archipelago is very remarkable: it seems to be a little world within itself," Darwin said after visiting the islands.

and the Grand Canyon in the US.

Just when we thought the dust was settling on new product
announcements here at IFA Berlin, LG slipped in a late entry: a surprise
debut of a brand new 77-inch curved 4K OLED television. It's not
exactly a finished product, but it is a little more fleshed out than a
bare bones tech demo. And while there may not have been a model name,
ship date, or price, it sure did look pretty.
LG already has one
OLED TV on the market, but that model, the 55EA9800, has a 1080p
resolution. This new, unnamed model promises to combine the best of both
burgeoning technologies, OLED and 4K (also called "Ultra HD").

Samsung Is Finally Building An OLED 4K/UHD TV

In Samsung’s second press conference of the IFA tech fair in Berlin
overnight, the gadget giant announced another 4K/UHD TV to sit in its
line-up, namely the 98-inch Series 9 UHD TV, but it also dropped a
little surprise on the audience as well. Samsung quickly said that it was working on a new, OLED UHD/4K TV for bright, vivid pictures in its high-resolution line-up.
No word on when this gear might actually land on our TVs or even how
much it would cost, but I’d imagine we’ll see the technology at next
year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Sony had its experimental 4K OLED on its CES stand back in January,
but it was only able to broadcast about 30 seconds of content it had
shot on a loop.

Microsoft’s Xbox One games console is to launch in Ireland on 22
November, exactly one week before Sony’s competing device arrives on
shelves. Thirteen countries are included in the company’s initial launch phase, which is set to cost around €499 in Ireland. The Xbox One is Microsoft’s third foray into the games market, though
the company is keen to promote the device’s potential as a multi-media
and communications tool.
Its announcement was poorly received at first, however, due to a
number of restrictions placed on the use of games. Microsoft has since
rowed back on many of those areas.Others have reacted with unease to the always-on nature of the
console’s Kinect accessory, which has a built-in camera and microphone
to help it track a user’s movements and commands. However the Seattle
tech giant says this feature can be disabled if customers wish to do so.
